Milk After Gym?

“Take care of your body
It’s the only place you have to live”
Jim Rohn, an American entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker

So true! Taking care of your body is the first thing you can do to live a peaceful and happy life.

In India, Gym is the new black. Every other person goes to a gym in search of fitness. But what about the most important part- The Diet? The perfect diet supplements the perfect body. Many nutritionists, instructors, and dietitians have recommended drinking milk after the gymming hours.

Milk contents:

Milk is rich in protein. It contains casein which helps weight loss by keeping you full for a long time. Casein also aids muscle repairs. Milk also contains whey which is a fast digesting protein. Protein shakes also include whey but milk is clearly more advantageous.

Milk contains almost 87 percent of water. You lose a lot of water while exercising. Milk hydrates the body and prevents fatigue.

You also receive calcium from milk. Calcium improves bone health and also aids fat loss. Bone health is extremely important for women.

Except for these, milk contains many more nutrients like vitamins, riboflavin, magnesium, biotin, etc.

A new trend of consuming chocolate milkshake after the gym or heavy workout is now seen all across. The beverage is said to contain all the nutrients needed to replenish the energy after a workout; also replenishes the proteins and calcium lost on the treadmill. Clint Wattenberg, the coordinator of sports nutrition at Cornell, said: “after numerous experiments, it was observed that low-fat chocolate milk can be used as a recovery beverage” [1]. Regular gymers also consume almond milk after the workout.

CrossFit trainer and nutritionist, Erica Giovinazzo’s after gym diet consist of a scoop of vanilla protein with almond milk and frozen blueberries, pureed pumpkin with a half teaspoon of cinnamon. Co-founder of Throwback Fitness, Brian Gallagher consumes chocolate milk after a hard workout.[2]

Go on! Get the energy levels up. Build up those muscles. But a word of caution- If you are lactose intolerant, consuming milk products can cause some problems. Don’t worry; we also have a remedy for that. Read our article on Cheeses low in lactose which is especially for lactose intolerant people.
